Position: Public Safety Operations Manager | Full-Time | Miami Beach Convention Center

Position

Summary

The Public Safety Operations Manager reports to the Director of Public Safety & Transportation and is responsible for delivering high‑quality customer service while maximizing operational efficiency. The role directs leadership, planning, administration, and management of Public Safety & Transportation Department operations, including transportation, loading dock, event logistics, parking, and other operational functions. Responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating event‑related transportation and logistics, working with internal departments, external stakeholders, and local agencies, ensuring compliance with safety rules and policies, and coordinating event preparation, execution, and demobilization.

Salary: $69,000–$79,000 per year.

About the Venue

The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) welcomes meeting and event planners, exhibitors, and attendees to Miami Beach and Miami. Reimagined following a $640‑million renovation, the MBCC provides a world‑class, state‑of‑the‑art event venue for conferences, conventions, trade shows, and meetings. The new 800‑room Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is under development and slated to open in late 2027. The LEED Silver certified green building includes a Grand Ballroom, 500,000 square feet of flexible exhibition halls, junior ballrooms, outdoor terraces, 84 breakout rooms, and an onsite parking garage with 800 spots, including disabled, accessible, and electric‑vehicle charging spaces, and bike racks.

Responsibilities

Emergency Management, Incident Response & Risk Mitigation
  • Ensure communication of operational matters, incident reports, risk concerns, and safety observations to the Director.
  • Review and complete incident reports, ensuring documentation and follow‑through.
  • Assist in responding to emergencies, incidents, demonstrations, protests, fires, storms, medical emergencies, and other situations.
  • Participate in event‑specific risk assessments and operational planning, recommending staffing, transportation, traffic management, emergency access, and public safety support.
  • Support investigations involving injuries, theft, workplace violence, and operational disruptions.
  • Participate in after‑action reviews, tracking corrective actions.
  • Support risk mitigation initiatives, crowd management planning, hazard identification, contractor oversight, emergency access planning, and campus safety improvements.
Emergency Preparedness, Life Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain working relationships with the Miami Beach Police Department, Miami Beach Fire Rescue, emergency management officials, and other public safety partners.
  • Coordinate and participate in emergency drills, exercises, tabletop exercises, and training programs.
  • Support operation and effectiveness of CCTV, access control, life safety, and security systems.
  • Assist in identifying, documenting, and correcting hazards across the MBCC campus.
  • Support compliance with OSHA, NFPA, Florida Statutes, city ordinances, and MBCC policies related to life safety and emergency preparedness.
Operational Leadership & Cross‑Functional Support
  • Serve as a cross‑functional leader within the department and provide support across security, transportation, emergency preparedness, event logistics, and special projects.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure services are delivered effectively and in accordance with policies.
