Position: TAX AUDITOR III - 79000285

Position Title

Tax Auditor III (Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco)

Pay

$1,685.78 to $1,999.05 Biweekly (incl. CAD)

Responsibilities
  • Plans and conducts independent audits of licensees, including source documents and accounting records review, and separate transaction analysis of all movement of product. Audits may include counting and recording inventories on hand for alcoholic beverages, other tobacco products, and taxable cigarettes. Assists higher level tax auditors or supervisors in more complex audits. Performs the duties and responsibilities of Tax Auditor I's when necessary.
  • Conducts desk audits on monthly reports, including verification of the mathematical accuracy of the reports, examination of the reports for completeness and correctness on cigarette, other tobacco product, beer, wine, and liquor reports of various types. Verification of payment of taxes, and cross‑reference of product movement.
  • Conducts inventories and/or audits of the division's fixed assets, information and evidence fund (I&E), seized evidence (vault), cigarette tax stamps, petty cash, and checking accounts.
  • Trains other tax auditors on proper auditing techniques and documentation of discrepancies as well as agency policies and procedures and state laws.
  • Witnesses and accounts for the destruction of cigarette stamp indicia, alcoholic beverage breakage, spoiled beverages and damaged cigarettes and tobacco products.
  • Completes other special projects and additional work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of accounting or auditing methods, principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the methods used in verifying and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to extract and disseminate tax information.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to examine and audit financial records.
  • Ability to prepare financial audit reports.
  • Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and advice to taxpayers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must possess a minimum of two years of professional auditing or accounting experience.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license no later than the date of appointment.
  • Must be willing to use a personal vehicle to conduct job assignments. The selected applicant will be reimbursed $0.445 per mile.
Preferred

Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in accounting or an area of business which includes five courses in accounting.
