Overview
Elementary Math Teacher (ESOL Endorsement Required) – Instructional position responsible for the educational leadership of students in a group or class in an innovative charter school. The educator is expected to understand and demonstrate the use of the school's curriculum, student instruction and assessment to maximize educational achievement for all students; work collaboratively to ensure a safe, secure, and respectful learning climate.
Implement strategies to reach the multiple intelligences of students through creative lessons. Understands central concepts, tools of inquiry, and the structure of the discipline(s) taught, and makes the subject matter meaningful to students. Develops a climate and culture of openness, fairness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry. Engage every student in grade-level appropriate learning experiences that promote performance. Listen and interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community members, respecting diverse perspectives.
Demonstrate respect for students, colleagues, administrators, and parents. Model and reinforce self-discipline and responsibility. Work with school colleagues, parents, and the community to support student learning and well-being. Provide professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning and student diversity; involve students in developing a mission and goals that support the school’s goals and guide classroom decisions; use data for continual improvement.
- Develops and implements a strategic planning system including course, unit, and lesson plans.
- Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate appropriate progress toward graduation expectations: knowledgeable, lifelong learner; responsible individual; effective communicator; problem solver; collaborative team worker; self-directed learner.
- Provide students and parents with timely data for improvement in student achievement.
- Use formal and informal assessment strategies to determine whether students have achieved high standards and modify instructional strategies as needed to maximize achievement.
- Understand how students learn and provide learning opportunities that support the intellectual, social, and personal development of diverse learners.
- Establish and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment; manage student misconduct promptly and resolve conflicts and crises effectively.
- Promote independent and collaborative work ethic.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and state teaching certification
- 2-year minimum previous experience teaching at the K-12 level
- Math Endorsement K-12 or 6-12
- Understanding of child development principles and best practices in education and classroom management
- Knowledge of classroom health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and ability to closely adhere to the guidelines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
