Junior Accounts Payable Accountant | Mission-Driven Organization

Position Type: Full-Time / Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Are you an aspiring accounting professional looking to elevate your career beyond basic data entry? We are representing a highly respected non-profit organization seeking a Junior Accounts Payable Accountant to join their finance department.

This is a dynamic role designed for someone who understands the "why" behind the numbers. You will move beyond simple payables to manage complex grant distributions, corporate credit reconciliations, and month-end closing support.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger. This position offers a unique vista into fund accounting and grant management, providing a specialized skill set that is highly valued in the professional landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • General Ledger & Coding: Accurate processing and coding of invoices across multiple entities and locations, ensuring precise allocation to specific grants and programs.
  • Financial Reporting & Cycles: Execute weekly journal entries and internal adjustments; manage the full weekly payment cycle from reporting through to distribution.
  • Corporate Account Oversight: Lead the reconciliation process for corporate AMEX accounts, preparing monthly journal entries to ensure all expenses are categorized correctly.
  • Audit & Month-End Support: Act as a key contributor during month-end closes and provide essential documentation and support for annual audits.
  • Vendor Relations: Manage high-volume inquiries, providing professional correspondence regarding account status and financial discrepancies.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in an accounting or accounts payable environment.
  • Education/Knowledge: A strong grasp of general accounting principles; non-profit or government grant experience is highly preferred.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    High proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required for data management and reconciliations.
  • Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to meet strict deadlines under pressure, and a proactive approach to multitasking.
