Lead Accountant
Job Description
The Lead Accountant supports the monthly close process, prepares and reconciles key accounts, and manages large volumes of complex accounting data. This role focuses on ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, generating reports used for forecasting, and providing critical support to leadership. The position suits a hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable with detailed manual processes and can quickly ramp up to work independently within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
+ Support the month-end close process, starting with the June close, and ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
+ Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.
+ Perform detailed account reconciliations, including accrued liabilities, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
+ Handle a high volume of accounting data and manual entries, managing complex and detail-heavy processes with precision.
+ Review and interpret accounting data received from ships, which may be less structured, and translate it into accurate accounting entries.
+ Complete reconciliations after the close and verify the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
+ Generate financial reporting used for forecasting and provide timely, accurate deliverables to leadership.
+ Provide backup support to other team members as needed to ensure continuity of accounting operations.
+ Collaborate closely with colleagues to share knowledge, resolve issues, and continuously improve accounting processes.
+ Operate with increasing independence after ramp-up, taking ownership of assigned accounts and tasks.
Essential Skills
+ Strong accounting foundation with hands-on experience in month-end close activities and account reconciliations.
+ Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries.
+ Ability to perform detailed reconciliations for accrued liabilities, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
+ Comfort working with large data sets and manual accounting processes.
+ Ability to navigate complex or non-standard accounting inputs and apply sound judgment to interpret them.
+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP functions and Pivot Tables.
+ Experience working with ERP systems, with People Soft strongly preferred.
+ Ability to quickly ramp up in a new environment and operate independently once trained.
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling high volumes of data.
+ Effective communication skills to collaborate within a team-oriented environment.

Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience running or working with Macros in Excel is a plus.
+
Experience with Tableau or similar reporting and visualization tools is a plus.
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative, supportive team environment.
+ Proven capability to manage complex, detail-heavy accounting processes with minimal oversight.
Work Environment
This is a full-time role with standard working hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The position offers a hybrid arrangement, with Fridays worked remotely. You will report into Lead accounting leadership within a highly collaborative and supportive team. The culture emphasizes hands-on support, strong communication, and a positive, team-oriented approach where colleagues actively help new hires get up to speed and work together to resolve issues and improve processes.

This is a Contract position based out of Miami, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $44.00/hr.
