Staff Accountant (Law Firm)
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per year | Miami, FL | On-site | Permanent
Job SummaryResponsible for managing legal billing, financial operations, and accounting integrity within a professional services environment. This role reports directly to the Director of Operations and involves ownership of billing accuracy, financial reporting, and compliance with internal controls.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the monthly legal billing cycle, including preparation, review, revision, and finalization of pre-bills and client invoices, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP), Accounts Receivable, trust balances, client costs, and third‑party expenses to support cash flow and collections.
- Oversee accounts payable, vendor payments, expense allocations, and financial reconciliations with high accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare detailed monthly financial reports for leadership, including AR status, WIP analysis, and client trust balances.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and perform account reconciliations according to established accounting policies and internal controls.
- Safeguard confidential financial and client data with discretion and professionalism.
- Partner with attorneys and administrative staff to resolve billing issues and improve financial workflows and efficiency.
- Provide cross‑functional administrative and financial support as needed to ensure operational excellence.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong experience with legal billing, AP, AR, reconciliations, financial reporting, and trust accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical and communication abilities.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Law firm accounting experience with familiarity in billing and practice management systems.
- Knowledge of WIP management, electronic billing platforms, trust accounting compliance, KPI reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
