  • Hands-on experience building and implementing internal controls, policies, and procedures, with a strong commitment to ensuring these are effectively maintained.
  • Practical experience managing long-term assets and liabilities beyond cash, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable, including:
    Lease accounting (Operating and Finance Leases), Long-term debt and amortization schedules, and Fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and asset registers.
  • Strong hands-on experience with cash management and bank reconciliations while providing guidance and support to the accounting team.
  • Takes complete ownership of assigned responsibilities and effectively leads the Accounting Team.
  • Demonstrates visible leadership by initiating discussions, driving collaboration, participating in brainstorming, and serving as the central point of leadership for the Accounting Team.
  • Proven experience leading external audits, preferably with Big Four audit firms, including managing Prepared By Client (PBC) requests and implementing the controls and documentation necessary to support successful audits.
  • Leads the annual budgeting process and assumes ownership of the Company's financial controlling responsibilities, allowing the Director of Finance to focus on broader strategic initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Financial Controller must have hands-on experience with the following:

  • Manage the complete accounting cycle, including:
    • General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Bank Reconciliations, Fixed Assets, Depreciation, Asset Register, Operating and Finance Leases
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, including:
    • Income Statement variance analysis, Balance Sheet reconciliations and variance analysis, Statement of Cash Flows
  • Develop, implement, and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Lead the annual external audit process, preferably working directly with Big Four audit firms.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead or collaborate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities that support the Company's strategic objectives.
  • Lead and mentor the Accounting Team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and professional work environment.
  • Develop staff capabilities in financial reporting, compliance, and analytical problem-solving.
  • Promote open communication, coaching, and employee development.
  • Conduct financial analyses to identify trends, variances, operational risks, and opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Assist in developing, managing, and monitoring departmental budgets while providing meaningful variance analysis.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of financial resources to support long-term organizational sustainability.
  • Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes by leveraging technology and industry best practices.
  • Support the adoption of innovative tools and techniques to improve workflow efficiency and financial reporting.
  • Maintain effective internal controls that safeguard Company assets and support sound corporate governance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a finance-related field (Master’s Degree and CPA preferred).
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role with a strong track record of adaptability in business processes.
  • Experience in Casino/Gaming, Pari-Mutuel and Food & Beverage accounting preferred.
  • Software:
    Oracle ERP Fusion Cloud strongly preferred. Sage a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other financial tools.
  • Must have strong understanding of financial acumen with proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve issues and to initiate, design, implement and document required business processes.
