Job Details

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day accounting operations for a growing oil & gas organization. This individual will lead the month‑end close process, ensure accurate financial reporting, manage a team of accounting professionals, and partner closely with operations, land, production, treasury, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in U.S. GAAP, experience within the upstream, midstream, or downstream oil & gas industry, and a passion for driving process improvements in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules for multiple entities.
  • Oversee general ledger accounting and maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and variance analyses for executive leadership.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, land, and commercial teams to ensure accurate accounting for production, transportation, and operating costs.
  • Oversee accounting for joint interest billings (JIB), revenue, production, or midstream operations, depending on business focus.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and support SOX compliance initiatives, where applicable.
  • Review fixed asset accounting, capital project expenditures, and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
  • Drive continuous process improvements, automation initiatives, and ERP optimization.
  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions as needed.
  • Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience within the oil & gas industry (upstream, midstream, or downstream).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience leading month‑end close and managing a general ledger.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with oil & gas ERP systems such as Enertia, OGSys, SAP, Oracle, P2, Quorum, Energy Components, or Dynamics 365.
  • Knowledge of production accounting, revenue accounting, joint interest billing (JIB), division orders, or midstream accounting.
  • Experience with multi‑entity and intercompany accounting.
  • Public accounting background is a plus.
