** Summary
* * The Graduate Hall Coordinator (GHC) is a live-in, 12-month graduate staff member responsible for supporting the operational and programmatic functions of assigned residential communities. This is a developmental position intended to provide practical professional experience in residential operations, staff supervision, student development, and crisis response. Barry University Resident Assistants who have demonstrated strong performance and leadership are encouraged to apply upon entering graduate school as part of the department’s intentional professional development and pipeline model.
The GHC directly supervises Desk Assistants and provides programmatic support to Resident Assistants under the oversight of the Area Coordinator; the GHC does not carry direct supervisory authority over Resident Assistants. Total weekly hours shall not exceed 20 hours under any circumstances, including on-call weeks. GHCs participate in an on-call rotation and serve as essential personnel during university-declared emergencies. Evening and weekend work is regularly required.
GHCs may not hold more than 20 hours of additional external commitments including employment, internships, athletics, or organizational involvement.#
** Essential Functions
**** 1.*
* ** Desk Assistant Supervision and Development:*
* • Directly supervise Desk Assistants within assigned residential communities, including scheduling, training, onboarding, and day-to-day oversight.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with Desk Assistants to discuss performance, responsibilities, and professional development.
• Monitor Desk Assistant performance and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and recognition.
• Coordinate with the Area Coordinator regarding Desk Assistant accountability and corrective action when necessary.
• Maintain accurate Desk Assistant scheduling records and ensure front desk coverage expectations are met.
** 2**.
** Residential Operations and Facilities Management:*
* • Administer the health and safety inspection process for assigned residential communities, including coordinating inspection schedules, conducting inspections, and ensuring timely completion of follow-up actions.
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and identify maintenance, custodial, safety, and security concerns.
• Submit maintenance requests and communicate unresolved concerns to Facilities Management and the Area Coordinator.
• Support residence hall opening and closing processes at the building level as directed by the Area Coordinator.
• Facilitate individual room swap requests at the building level and communicate all room change information to the Area Coordinator for processing through the Associate Director for Business Operations.
• Maintain accurate community-level records and incident documentation.
** 3.*
* ** Programmatic Support and Residential
Education:
*
* • Support Resident Assistants in developing educational programs and community engagement initiatives consistent with the department’s residential curriculum and educational priority framework.
• Review RA program proposals and provide feedback on learning outcomes, event logistics, and community relevance.
• Encourage student participation and engagement within assigned residential communities.
• Assess programming efforts through participation data, student feedback, and learning outcomes and report findings to the Area Coordinator.
• Identify community trends and opportunities for increased resident engagement and communicate recommendations to the Area Coordinator.
• Assist with the implementation of departmental programming initiatives and student engagement efforts as directed.
** 4. On-Call Duty Rotation and Emergency Response:*
* • Serve in a rotating on-call schedule providing after-hours support for assigned residential communities.
• Respond to emergency situations including medical concerns, facilities issues, student welfare concerns, and policy violations.
