About the Organization
CAP Government, Inc. is seeking the immediate hire of licensed Mechanical Inspector and/or Plans Examiner needed for plan review services of construction projects in Southeast (Miami, Broward, and Palm Beach) Florida. The candidate will work collaboratively with design professionals, contractors, owners, plans examiners, fire marshals, structural engineers, inspectors and others, answering questions, interpreting and explaining complex technical concepts and offering solutions from design concept through construction.
The professional will conduct plan review on residential and commercial buildings, as well as provide daily project management as such relates to these types of code inspections. Some travel may be required for projects in the assigned area.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Prepare written and electronic reports and issue notices of correction
- Explain and interpret building code and/or quality control regulations or requirements
- Recognize, evaluate and properly resolve unique problems or situations
- Maintain effective customer service relationship with clients and the public
- Experience on large and small building projects within the Southeast Florida tri-county market is preferred
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
Education and/or Experience
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and other regulations pertaining to construction and development.
- Knowledge of design, engineering, materials and methods related to residential and commercial construction.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to understand and interpret codes and evaluate project proposals and projects under construction to verify conformance with code requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to make appropriate, sometimes unpopular decisions.
- Ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical manner.
- Ability to respond diplomatically to angry citizens or clients.
- Ability to coordinate activities with other departments.
- Knowledge of computer software applications.
License and Certification
- Certified Mechanical Inspector and/or Plans Examiner by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation; AND
- At least five years of field experience as a Certified Journeyman General, Master Mechanical or Specialty Mechanical Contractor issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board; OR
- At least five years field experience as a state Certified Mechanical Contractor issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board with not less than five years of field experience; OR
- A current license issued by the State of Florida as an Engineer will substitute for three of the required five years of construction experience; AND
- Must be certified or certifiable by the Miami Dade and or the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
