We are seeking a proactive Project Engineer to support commercial construction projects in the hospitality and retail sectors. The Project Engineer will coordinate technical design, construction administration, and on-site execution to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to specified quality and safety standards. This role bridges project management and field engineering, working closely with project managers, subcontractors, architects, and clients to resolve technical issues and optimize construction workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project managers in planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities for commercial, hospitality, and retail projects.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents; identify and communicate potential issues or conflicts.
- Prepare technical submittals, RFI responses, as-built documentation, and progress reports for internal and client review.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractor scope, logistics, and on-site performance; conduct regular site inspections and quality checks.
- Collaborate with design teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions and value engineering proposals.
- Monitor construction progress against schedule and budget; track materials, equipment, and labor needs and report variances.
- Ensure compliance with safety, building code, and permitting requirements; participate in safety meetings and enforce site safety protocols.
- Facilitate construction meetings, record minutes, and follow up on action items to drive timely resolution.
- Support commissioning, turnover, and close-out processes, including punch lists, warranties, and final documentation.
- Use project management and construction software to track deliverables, update schedules, and maintain project records.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in commercial construction engineering or project engineering, with exposure to hospitality and/or retail projects preferred.
- Strong familiarity with reading construction drawings, specifications, and MEP systems, and ability to produce technical submittals and RFIs.
- Proven experience coordinating subcontractors, managing site inspections, and ensuring quality control.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling (MS Project, Primavera, or similar) and project management software (Procore, Plan Grid, Procore preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with clients, design teams, and field personnel.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of local building codes, permitting processes, and construction safety regulations; OSHA certification a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as project needs demand.
