What We’re Looking For
This is a full‑time staff engineer who is responsible for providing construction site field and office support and resources during construction phases of projects for ongoing work at Miami Dade Aviation Department’s (MDAD) Concessions Program.
What You’ll Do- Perform office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to preparing documentation for change orders, reviewing change order scope of work, schedule and cost, processing and maintaining tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables; assist in constructability reviews.
- Inspect, monitor, and oversee construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications; read, interpret, and confirm compliance with applicable contract documents.
- Perform or oversee on‑site material testing; review plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities); track item quantities, prepare pay estimates, and ensure procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
- Initiate field changes to drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
- Review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
- Maintain as‑constructed drawings and monitor contractors’ progress to analyze against progress schedule.
- Consult with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommend solutions, assist in the resolution of issues, and act as a liaison with the engineer of record.
- Remain current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research; gain exposure to new technology and utilize it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
- Mentor and train staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in a relevant field and 6 years relevant experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years relevant experience.
- Identify and resolve issues with basic change conditions with oversight from the project engineer.
- Develop working relationships with agency staff and stakeholders.
- Operate relevant testing equipment as needed for the project.
- Understand Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills at an advanced level.
- Understand document control for the project (e.g., materials documentation of RFI, contractor payment, contractor employment records) at an advanced level with oversight from more experienced staff.
- Training in digital construction management software such as Constructware, Asite or similar preferred.
- Construction Manager‑in‑Training (CMIT).
