Position SummaryThe Petroleum Construction Helper supports the installation, replacement, and modification of underground storage tanks (USTs), above ground storage tanks (ASTs), fuel piping systems, and related petroleum equipment.
This is a hands‑on construction position that works as part of a field crew under the direction of a Petroleum Construction Lead or Project Manager. The successful candidate should be dependable, safety‑minded, willing to learn, and capable of working in a physically demanding construction environment.
The position requires frequent travel and overnight/out‑of‑town work.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the installation and removal of USTs, ASTs, fuel piping, and related petroleum equipment.
- Assist the Petroleum Construction Lead and other crew members with daily construction activities.
- Load, unload, stage, and organise tools, materials, and equipment.
- Assist with excavation, tank setting, piping installation, back filling, concrete preparation, and other construction activities.
- Assist with the installation of tank sumps, spill containment, drop tubes, vent piping, and other petroleum equipment.
- Assist with measuring, layout, and verifying dimensions and elevations as directed by the Lead.
- Learn to read and understand basic construction plans, drawings, and site layouts.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment as trained and authorised.
- Assist with site preparation, clean‑up, and restoration.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition.
- Keep the jobsite clean, organised, and free of unnecessary hazards.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite safety procedures.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or other concerns to the Lead or Project Manager.
- Assist with material and equipment inventory.
- Follow instructions from the Petroleum Construction Lead and Project Manager.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers, subcontractors, general contractors, and customers.
- Perform other construction‑related duties as assigned.
- Previous construction experience is preferred but not required.
- Previous petroleum, fuel system, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, or utility construction experience is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to learn petroleum construction methods and equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
- Safety‑conscious attitude.
- Valid driver’s licence with a good driving record.
- Ability to travel regularly and work overnight/out of town as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work.
- Must possess a valid drivers licence.
- Previous experience working on construction sites.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Experience working around heavy equipment.
- Basic understanding of construction plans and drawings.
- Previous experience with USTs, ASTs, fuel piping, or petroleum equipment.
