Theatrical Wardrobe Stitcher

We are seeking an experienced theatrical wardrobe stitcher to join our shipboard entertainment team for short-term costume maintenance and alteration projects. This unique position combines traditional theatrical costuming skills with the demands of maritime entertainment productions.
Key Responsibilities Costume Maintenance & Alterations- Perform quick alterations and adjustments to pre-existing costumes to fit current cast members
- Execute emergency repairs on performance costumes with minimal downtime
- Maintain costume integrity while working within tight turnaround schedules
- Assess garment condition and recommend maintenance priorities
- Hand and machine stitching of various fabric types including stretch fabrics, sequined materials, and specialty theatrical textiles
- Hemming, taking in/letting out seams, and adjusting costume proportions
- Installing and replacing zippers, snaps, hooks, and other closures
- Basic pattern adjustment for fit modifications
- Spot cleaning and minor fabric restoration
- Work efficiently in compact, shipboard workspace conditions
- Adapt to ship movement and limited storage while maintaining work quality
- Collaborate with limited crew in fast-paced production environment
- Manage portable sewing equipment as well as industrial sewing machines and mobile workstation setup
- Minimum 5 years' experience in theatrical costume construction or professional tailoring
- Proficiency with industrial sewing machines and sergers
- Strong hand‑sewing skills for delicate and specialty fabrics
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working under tight deadlines in live performance environments
- Previous cruise ship or touring production experience
- Knowledge of costume maintenance for dance and high‑movement performances as well as haute‑couture fabrics
- Experience with stretch fabrics and performance wear
- Experience with beaded fabrics, and haute couture fabrics
- Experience with haute couture and tailoring techniques
- Experience with millinery techniques
- Basic embellishment and beadwork repair skills
- Familiarity with steamers and professional garment care equipment
- Ability to work in confined spaces for extended periods
- Manual dexterity for detailed needlework
- Ability to lift and maneuver costume pieces up to 15 pounds
- Extended periods of sitting and close‑detail work
- Duration:
Short‑term contracts typically 2‑4 weeks depending on production schedule - All meals and accommodation provided during contract period
- Transportation to/from embarkation ports
