Summary

Summary The Student Ambassador position is a student leadership position that positively represents Barry University and fulfills the mission of the university, and the mission of the Department of Recruitment and Admissions. Student Ambassadors will help educate visitors about campus life, history, traditions and achievements of the University. Student Ambassadors are responsible for providing support campus tours, recruitment events, student outreach, social media initiatives, and other Admissions activities.

The student ambassador’s work schedule is flexible based on their coursework and will include evenings and weekends as needed. This position guarantees one semester in the program with the option to be re-hired for the next semester based on performance evaluation.

Essential Functions Campus Visit, Event & Guest Experience

Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of Barry University to prospective students, families, and campus guests. Greet and assist prospective students, families, and University visitors. Conduct individual, family, group, Saturday, holiday, and special campus tours. Participate in Admissions recruitment events, student panels, Open Houses, admitted student programs, and other University initiatives. Assist with event check-in, way finding, setup, breakdown, and other guest experience needs.

Serve as Bucky, Barry University's mascot, at designated Admissions events. f. Represent Barry professionally and enthusiastically during all visitor interactions and activities, including occasional evening and weekend programs.

Admissions & Student Engagement Support

Support Undergraduate Admissions in engaging prospective and admitted students throughout the recruitment and enrollment process. Provide customer service to students and families in person, by phone, and virtually, connecting them with Admissions Counselors or University resources as appropriate. Conduct welcome calls, event reminders, follow-up calls, and other approved student and family outreach. Participate in Admissions webinars, virtual programs, student panels, and student engagement initiatives.

Provide front desk coverage and assist with inquiry processing and recruitment-related projects as needed. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling student information.

Recruitment Marketing & Social Media Support

Support the promotion of Admissions programs and the Barry student experience through student centered marketing and engagement. Manage and create content for the Student Ambassador Instagram account, including posts, Stories, Reels, takeovers, and other approved content. Assist with promoting campus visits, Admissions events, deadlines, and other recruitment initiatives through approved social media channels. Participate in Admissions marketing content and provide the student perspective for recruitment communications and campaigns.

Prepare and maintain recruitment materials, counselor packets, merchandise, acceptance materials, and promotional items.

Office & Operational Support

Support the daily operational needs of Undergraduate Admissions and maintain welcoming, organized Admissions spaces. Maintain and organize the Admissions lobby, Ambassador work spaces, tour areas, and other guest-facing spaces. Complete inventory checks and restock recruitment, event, tour, and promotional materials at Kelley House, Hopper, and other designated locations. Assist with administrative tasks including mail, filing, data entry, data collection, photocopying, correspondence, and packet preparation.

Support special projects and other duties as assigned by Undergraduate Admissions leadership.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One to three years of work experience.
  • Must have completed at least 12 credit hours or one semester at Barry University prior to employment.
  • Must be available to work during University breaks, including winter, spring, and summer breaks, as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
