Summary

The UMMG Staff Physician provides medical care to patients as outlined by the medical staff rules and regulations. The incumbent receives patient assignments based on their educational discipline, expertise, and experience.

Core Job Functions
  • Patient care services for patients at UMH (University of Miami Hospital), JMH (Jackson Memorial Hospital), and satellites, including SCCC (Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center) and satellites. Responsibilities will focus on the assigned specialty or specialties.
  • Gross description, taking photographs of specimens when indicated, tissue sampling, microscopic examinations of surgical specimens, reporting findings, verifying coding diagnosis in the computer (when applicable), and electronically signing out cases in a timely manner.
  • Attend and present at relevant tumor boards as requested.
  • Service productivity will be assigned according to the departmental compensation plan, previously approved by the UHealth Compensation Committee.
  • Participate in educational activities of pathology residents and fellows.
  • Participate in educational activities of medical students.
  • Participate in daily quality assurance and in the Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services so that the Department of Pathology maintains JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
  • Report hazardous or unsafe conditions, equipment malfunction, and supply instrumentation inadequacies to appropriate personnel.
  • Report all Quality Assurance (QA) incidences, including mediation errors, to responsible physician using department guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.

Qualifications Education

M.D. in a relevant field.

Certification and Licensing

Certification in relevant specialty or field.

Experience

Successfully completed residency in AP or AP/CP residency program. 1–2 years signout experience desired.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
