Pain Medicine SpecialistJob Description (Outpatient Centers):
The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine,and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is undergoing expansion and seeksexceptional candidates to join thePain Medicinefaculty. EmploymentRequirements:
- Candidates for this position should have completed anACGME-accredited residency in AnesthesiologyandanACGME-accreditedfellowship in Pain Medicine.
- Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiologyand Board Eligibility or Certification for Added Qualification in Pain Medicinearerequired for this position. (Equivalence to board certification can be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- While research experienceandteachingarenot required to apply for this position,they arehighly desirable.
Job Description:
- Pain Specialistsshould feel comfortable in evaluating and treatingpatientssuffering froma wide variety ofacute and chronic pain conditions, including
-but not limitedtocancer-related pain, spine pain, neuropathic,and musculoskeletal pain. Expertise in utilizing various treatment modalities, including medication management, interventional procedures, and referrals to physical therapy and other specialties,is necessary.
Pain Specialists are expected to communicate effectively and collaborate with multidisciplinary specialties, including
Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Hematology/Oncology, PM&R, physical therapy, and behavioral health. - Pain Specialists should feel comfortable and safeperformingfluoroscopically guided and ultrasound-guidedspine and peripheral procedures, such as spine and joint injections, radio frequency ablations, peripheral nerve blocks, and interventional modalities with implantable devices such as spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal delivery systems.
- Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents,Pain Medicine Fellows, andARNPs.
- Yet, applicants should feel comfortableseeing patients andperformingproceduresindependentlyif required.
- Applicantsmustparticipate in the department’s academic activities,including teaching and mentoring trainees,Outpatient Pain Job,and participating in departmental conferences,committees,and faculty meetings.
- Interest of applicant sin pursuing academic scholarly activities, including research, is desirable.
- This positionismainlybasedonproviding chronic outpatient pain services in clinics affiliated with the University of Miami Health System.
- The effortdistribution may change based on department needs,candidate’s interests,and success in obtaining extramural grant funding for research.
- Compensationdependson years of experience andthedetermination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.
