Position Overview:

The School of Continuing Education and Professional Development seeks a dedicated part-time ESL instructor to teach English language courses to adult learners. The instructor will focus on enhancing students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to facilitate their personal and professional development.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) designed for adult learners seeking to improve their communication skills for academic, professional, or personal advancement.
  • Prepares and delivers comprehensive ESL lessons catering to various proficiency levels.
  • Utilizes diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Evaluates student progress through assessments and provides individualized support.
  • Incorporates cultural and real-life contexts into lessons to enhance learning.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance and academic performance.
  • Designs and delivers ESL instruction to students with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Prepares lesson plans that incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Utilizes culturally relevant teaching strategies and authentic materials.
  • Assesses student language progress through formative and summative assessments.
  • Provides individualized support to meet diverse student needs.
  • Incorporates digital tools and multimedia resources into instruction.
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance and academic progress.
  • Develops a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborates with program staff on curriculum development and student support.
  • Participates in professional development and language instruction training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field, with at least 2 years of ESL teaching experience to adults.
    • Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills.
    • Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and ESL teaching strategies.
    • Experience with curriculum development and instructional technology.
    • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and ESL methodologies.
    • Familiarity with ESL curriculum frameworks and adult education standards.
    • Ability to adapt instruction for diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency with online learning tools and instructional technology.
    • Skill in designing student-centered lessons.
    • Ability to assess language skills using varied tools.
    • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with multilingual populations.
    • Knowledge of community and workforce English needs.
    • Classroom management skills to foster engagement.
    Preferences:
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • TEFL/TESOL certification highly desirable.
    Additional Requirements:

    The final candidate must successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
