Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) is a national leader in integrating community-based medical education and clinical care. We are dedicated to training socially accountable physicians, scientists, and health professionals committed to serving the community. HWCOM is an academic and clinical affiliate of Baptist Health, South Florida's (BHSF) largest not-for-profit health system. BHSF and HWCOM aim to develop a catalog of graduate medical education (GME) programs based out of BHSF's largest hospital, Baptist Hospital Miami (BHM).
We are currently seeking a Director of Medical Education Learning Services for Graduate Medical Education to join our team of professionals within Baptist Hospital Miami
- Provide one-on-one coaching sessions to residents and fellows identified as exhibiting signs of academic difficulty or deficiencies in professionalism competency.
- Explore trainees' individual learning preferences and work with them to develop active learning and study strategies appropriate for their needs.
- Assist trainees and Program Directors/Faculty in developing Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) to address identified challenges.
- Offer guidance on navigating interpersonal challenges, including teamwork, conflict resolution, and developing leadership skills.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive plans for teaching trainees effective study strategies for high-stakes exams (e.g., board certification exams, in-service exams).
- In collaboration with the DIO and Program Directors, develop a longitudinal curriculum for the professionalism competency for GME trainees.
- Publish asynchronous modules and conduct in-person, interactive didactic sessions and workshops to develop professionalism identity formation for GME trainees.
- Take a proactive approach to enable residents and fellows to grow in their core competencies, including medical knowledge and professionalism, and help the program directors create and execute remediation measures for struggling trainees.
- Participate in Clinical Competency Committees (CCC) and semi-annual feedback sessions to assist faculty in giving feedback to trainees.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of coaching interventions and provide input to enhance the Annual Program Evaluations (APEs).
- Collect relevant programmatic data through monitoring of trends in trainee needs related to particular rotations, learning objectives, and content requiring enhanced learning techniques.
- Prepare general programmatic data and remediation information for faculty and GME leadership to inform potential improvements to training programs.
- Communicate effectively with trainees, faculty, and staff regarding trainee progress and concerns.
- Meet with program leadership on a regular basis to ensure the continued success of all trainees.
- Collaborate with other GME office staff to provide input on developing the Annual Program Evaluations (APEs) and Annual Institutional Review (AIR) Reports.
- Refer trainees to appropriate resources, such as counseling, mental health services, or employee assistance programs, as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and six (6) years of appropriate experience.
Departmental RequirementsExperience in Medical Education academic support, well-being resources, employee wellness, or organizational behavior.
Familiarity with adult learning principles and evidence-based learning strategies.
