Job Information

Art + Art History, Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Animation. Full‑time, nine‑month position beginning in Fall 2026. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate highly competent performance in interdisciplinary scholarly research and/or creative work. The individual will possess the ability to cross disciplines in teaching, with strong skills in both analog and digital forms. Experience with new technologies and the ability to engage in cross‑disciplinary teaching and critique are expected.

Preference will be given to candidates showing evidence of exceptional teaching, academic leadership experience or potential, and excellent organizational and communication skills. The successful candidate will provide evidence of a distinct vision for curriculum development that capitalizes upon the transformative capacity of contemporary art and design practices.

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants with wide‑ranging intellectual and creative interests to complement and build upon our department's existing capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain an active creative research practice with a record of achievement, demonstrating an interdisciplinary approach to animation.
  • Teach courses primarily in animation, including undergraduate independent studies and thesis, as well as serving on MFA committees.
  • Initial teaching responsibilities include four courses per year, with a teaching load of five courses per year (3/2) after completion of a 3rd‑year review.
  • Develop animation curricula that incorporate varied conceptual and technical approaches.
  • Student mentoring and service to the department and university.
  • Engage in cross‑disciplinary teaching and interact with all studio students in critiques and studio visits.
  • Contribute to the Foundations program (optional).
  • Willingness to engage with and critique emerging technologies, including AI‑assisted tools, and address their creative, professional, and ethical dimensions with students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MFA degree in animation, multidisciplinary arts, or related field by the start date of employment.
  • University‑level experience collaborating with other faculty on curriculum development.
  • University‑level experience teaching with new technologies across disciplines.
  • Demonstration of community engagement both with campus community and beyond.
  • Graduate‑level teaching and mentorship experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MFA degree in animation, multidisciplinary arts, or related field by the start date of employment.
  • Ability to engage in the theoretical and critical discourses of contemporary art and design in practice and pedagogy.
