Middle School Mental Health Counselor

SLAM Miami is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Middle School Mental Health Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate has experience working with middle school-aged children and a strong understanding of child development, behavior, and social-emotional learning. This role includes providing individual and small group counseling, supporting students through challenges, collaborating with teachers and families, and helping to create a positive and inclusive school culture.

• Prior experience working with middle school-aged students (6-8 grade), preferably in a school setting.
• Strong understanding of child development, behavior management, and social-emotional learning.
• Experience providing individual and small group counseling services.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and families.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience supporting MTSS/RTI processes and student intervention planning.
• Knowledge of crisis response and student support protocols.
• Active participation as a member of the school’s Threat Assessment Team, including identifying, assessing, and supporting students of concern.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
• Demonstrated commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

• Masters Degree

• Florida professional certification in School Counseling or School Social Work (or eligibility to obtain).
