This is a professional position responsible for the instruction of elementary or secondary school students at various ability levels in one or more of the appropriate courses offered through the physical education subject area.
Job Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities.
- Creates a positive and safe environment for learning.
- Designs a physical fitness program in accordance with the latest principles of training and conditioning.
- Knows the latest rules, strategies and appropriate behaviors for selected physical activities.
- Maintains attendance and grades as required by school and Dade County Public School Board policy.
- Maintains classroom management through verbal and non-verbal techniques.
- Develops interest and skills that will encourage future participation in physical activities.
- Uses effective instructional planning which should be evident in the teacher's lesson plans.
- Develops awareness, appreciation and respect for persons of diverse ethnic and multi-cultural backgrounds.
- Selects appropriate curriculum materials which are suitable for various abilities and grade levels.
- Participates in a faculty meetings, professional meetings and inservice workshops.
- Performs related work as required or as assigned by the supervising administrator or his/her designee.
Physical Requirements:
This is medium work which requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The worker is exposed to noise and the work is performed indoors and outdoors.
