Career & Life Skills Coaching, Youth Development
The EMPOWER Project is a Goodwill Industries of South Florida Ameri Corps program that helps individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment prepare for and secure competitive, integrated jobs. Serving Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the program combines job readiness training, career exploration, mentoring, and hands‑on workplace experiences to support long‑term economic self‑sufficiency. Ameri Corps members provide individualized, high‑touch support through classroom instruction, peer mentoring, job coaching, and employment navigation.
Participants receive 60–120 hours of training focused on soft skills, workplace ethics, communication, and career planning, along with structured workplace rotations and job shadowing opportunities that connect learning to real‑world experience. The program is designed to address systemic barriers such as limited access to training, lack of accommodations, and employer hesitation. By partnering with local businesses, social enterprises, and community organizations, EMPOWER creates inclusive pathways to employment while strengthening participants’ confidence, independence, and job readiness.
Each year, the program serves 180 individuals, with a goal of at least 85% demonstrating improved job readiness. Through personalized support and community collaboration, the EMPOWER Project helps participants overcome employment barriers and move toward lasting economic stability and independence.
Ameri Corps members in the EMPOWER Project will provide direct, individualized support to participants as they prepare for employment. Members will deliver job readiness training, facilitate peer mentoring sessions, and coach participants on communication, time management, and workplace skills. They will support career exploration, help participants set employment goals, and assist with developing individualized employment plans. Members will also guide participants through workplace rotations and job shadowing experiences, providing on‑site coaching, feedback, and encouragement.
Throughout the program, members will track progress, lead reflection activities, connect participants to community resources, and support the transition into competitive, integrated employment.
