Position OverviewThe Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for planning and leading engaging physical education, fitness, and recreational activities that promote healthy lifestyles, teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive youth development for elementary-aged students.
Working closely with the Site Coordinator and Program Coordinator, the PE Teacher creates structured, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate activities that encourage active participation while reinforcing social-emotional learning, leadership, and character development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Student Engagement- Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons and recreational activities for students in grades K–5.
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and healthy lifestyles through structured activities.
- Develop age-appropriate games and activities that encourage participation, skill development, and confidence.
- Differentiate activities to meet the developmental and physical abilities of all students.
- Incorporate cooperative learning, team-building, and social-emotional learning into daily instruction.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment where all students can succeed.
- Maintain direct supervision of students at all times to ensure safety and compliance with program policies.
- Conduct activities using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
- Monitor outdoor and indoor activity areas to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Reinforce positive behavior expectations and implement appropriate behavior management strategies.
- Follow all emergency procedures and organizational safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the Site Coordinator, Program Coordinator, and instructional staff to support overall program goals.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding student participation, behavior, and individual needs.
- Support school-wide events, field days, family engagement activities, and special programs as assigned.
- Prepare equipment and instructional materials before each activity.
- Maintain and organize physical education equipment and supplies.
- Monitor equipment for safety and report replacement or repair needs.
- Maintain accurate participation and incident records when required.
- Follow all schedules, transitions, and operational procedures.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Big Ideas Educational Services Staff Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with elementary-aged students in education, youth development, recreation, coaching, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of age-appropriate physical education and recreational activities.
- Ability to safely supervise and engage large groups of students in active environments.
- Strong classroom management and positive behavior support skills.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate students while creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Successful Level II Background Screening.
- Completion of required DCF Child Care Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Florida Professional or Temporary Educator Certificate (preferred but not…
