Job Summary

The Substation Journeyman performs highly skilled, journeyman‑level electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electric substations, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment associated with high voltage electric substations. This role supports the construction of new substations as well as modifications and upgrades of existing substations for Electrical Utility Companies.

Core Responsibilities
  • Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:

  • Concrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection

  • Buswork (High and Low Voltage)

  • Airbreak / Hookstick Switches

  • Control Cable

  • Terminations (High / Low Voltage)

  • Control Buildings

  • Conduit and duck banks

  • Capacitor bank installations 23kv‑230 kv

  • Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers

  • Circuit Switchers, motor‑operated and manual switches

  • During installation and or maintenance, troubleshoot and correct malfunctions of all substation equipment.

  • Safe operation of all company and related construction equipment used for substation, transmission, and distribution line construction.

  • Follow company and industry safety protocols within the construction of substations.

  • Any other tasks as directed.

  • Responsible for maintaining company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions.

  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.

  • Understands and complies with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Obtain and maintain a valid State Class C driver’s license.
  • Must have previous substation experience.
  • Must be willing to travel around Florida.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10.
  • 4+ years of substation experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
