Title: Corrosion Apprentice

Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days
How You’ll Help Drive the Future of Natural GasResponsible for monitoring the corrosion level of natural gas service lines and mains, and maintaining compliance levels through the scheduling of preventive maintenance.
What You Need To Succeed- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must attend and pass a basic CP course within 2 years.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience performing the duties of a Utility Technician or other equivalent natural gas work experience.
- Full proficiency in the core dimensions of a Utility Technician.
- Knowledge of basic engineering procedures and corrosion engineering procedures.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Familiar with all relevant municipal, state, and federal regulations.
- Mechanical ability to operate basic testing equipment related to corrosion engineering.
- Proficiency with basic computer software and ability to update field data into a database or spreadsheet.
- Ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, decimals, fractions).
- Strong written communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct CP surveys to identify areas needing further testing for corrosion.
- Take pipe-to-soil readings and monitor impressed current systems.
- Process required inspection records in appropriate systems.
- Maintain corrosion maps (GIS) and update digital records.
- Survey, inspect and troubleshoot corrosion‑related leaks and issues.
- Assist other employees and be available for emergency first‑response call‑outs on a rotating or as‑needed basis.
- Perform special assignments and other job duties as requested.
NOTE:
Expected to complete all PQP Tasks specific to Corrosion Monitoring and Cathodic Protection within 1 year.
- NACE CP Tester Certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct cathodic protection experience.
- Minimum of 1 year performing duties of a Senior Utility Technician.
- Strong knowledge of the geographic area and strong interpersonal skills.
- Frequent interaction with PGS Divisional and Corporate Team Members.
- Frequent interaction with PGS Customers, Contractors, FPSC, and members of the General Public.
- Builds strong collaborative relationships.
- Drives operational excellence for customers.

- Think(s) strategically and exercises sound judgment.
- Speaks up on safety, health, and the environment.
- Availability for emergency response overtime, including call‑outs, weekends, holidays, and standby schedules on a rotating basis.
- Must be able to respond to gas emergencies and/or business needs within divisional guidelines and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Operates a motor vehicle safely and enters/exits the vehicle during an 8‑hour shift.
- Bends and/or stoops using lower extremities and back muscles.
- Walks, stands, or sits for extended periods.
- Grasps and handles small hand tools and other objects.
- Pulls, pushes, lifts, and carries objects up to 100 lbs.
- Vision correctable to 20/40.
- No average hearing loss greater than 40 dB in better ear at 500, 1000, 2000 Hz.
- Smells gas odorant in normal concentrations.
- Performs repetitive motions with substantial wrist, hand, and finger movement.
- Rotates and revolves body to face in another direction.
- Works outside for extended periods in potential hazards.
