Transportation Project Manager - Roadway Design
The role supports the planning, design, management, and delivery of FDOT and local agency transportation projects, emphasizing roadway design, project management, multidisciplinary coordination, quality control, and client service.
Position SummaryThe Transportation Project Manager will manage and support FDOT roadway design projects from notice to proceed through final delivery and post-design services. Responsibilities include project management, technical design oversight, schedule and budget management, client communication, subconsultant coordination, and mentorship of junior engineers and technical staff.
Essential Functions- Manage FDOT and local agency projects from NTP through final design and post-design support.
- Serve as Project Manager, Engineer of Record, or technical lead, as appropriate.
- Provide technical direction for roadway design, drainage, lighting, signing and pavement markings, signalization, utility coordination, and temporary traffic control.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and communicate with clients, subconsultants, utility owners, permitting agencies, and internal staff.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers on FDOT design and project delivery expectations.
- Assist with pursuit strategy, proposal preparation, scope development, level‑of‑effort estimates, and client presentations.
- Participate in selected FDOT meetings, professional organizations, industry events, field reviews, and project coordination meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license in the State of Florida.
- 10+ years of transportation engineering experience.
- Experience managing FDOT or local agency transportation design projects.
- Strong understanding of FDOT design standards, procedures, manuals, and specifications.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary transportation project teams.
- Experience with Open Roads Designer, Micro Station, or similar design software.
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, and client-service skills.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and support technical staff development.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel periodically for client meetings, project coordination, or site visits.
- Experience with FDOT District 4, District 6, or other Florida transportation clients.
- Experience serving as Project Manager, Engineer of Record, Utility Coordinator, or discipline lead.
- Experience with roadway, drainage, lighting, signing and pavement marking, signalization, utility coordination, and temporary traffic control assignments.
- Experience preparing FDOT plans, specifications, estimates, design documentation, and submittal packages.
- Experience with FDOT LRE, Bluebeam, AutoTURN, Guide
SIGN, AGi
32, GEOPAK, Open Roads Designer, or similar tools. - FDOT Advanced Temporary Traffic Control Certification, FDOT Specification Package Training, FDOT LRE Training, or similar FDOT training.
- Active involvement in transportation-related professional organizations.
- Ability to perform occasional fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or in the field.
This role is anticipated to be based in South Florida, with work performed in an office, hybrid, or project‑based environment depending on business needs.
