Company Mission

At Blue Origin, we’re realizing our vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth through the development of reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles. Join our pioneering team as we continue to make history in human spaceflight within our culture of safety, innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.

Role Overview

As a Principal AI Engineer supporting New Glenn, we will lead the development of sophisticated AI systems that enhance manufacturing operations for this revolutionary spacecraft. New Glenn is designed to routinely carry people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond, with a fully reusable first stage and inherent human‑capable design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and implement advanced AI solutions to optimize New Glenn manufacturing processes, improve production efficiency, and enhance quality control.
  • Develop machine learning models to predict maintenance needs, identify production anomalies, and prevent manufacturing defects.
  • Design intelligent automation systems that streamline complex assembly operations and reduce production cycle times.
  • Create digital twin technologies and simulation environments to test manufacturing processes before physical implementation.
  • Build and deploy computer vision systems for automated inspection and quality verification across production lines.
  • Develop natural language processing solutions to extract insights from manufacturing documentation and technical procedures.
  • Implement predictive analytics for supply chain optimization and inventory management.
  • Lead the integration of AI systems with existing manufacturing execution systems and industrial IoT infrastructure.
  • Establish rigorous testing protocols with measurable performance metrics to validate AI solutions in production environments.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers, production teams, and quality assurance to identify high‑impact AI application opportunities.
  • Maintain cutting‑edge knowledge of emerging AI and manufacturing automation technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or related field.
  • Proven experience as an AI Engineer or similar technical leadership role.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Python, C/C++, or Java.
  • Extensive experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries.
  • Demonstrated expertise building LLM‑based applications, RAG pipelines, or agent‑based systems.
  • Hands‑on experience fine‑tuning, adapting, and deploying LLMs.
  • Proficiency with prompt engineering, embeddings, and content management.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization, and CI/CD practices.
  • Excellence in analytical problem‑solving with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented design, and version control.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration abilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in relevant discipline.
  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, Sage Maker, or equivalent managed AI/ML services.
  • Proficiency with Databricks or similar platforms for data engineering.
  • Experience with time‑series ML architectures for forecasting or anomaly detection.
  • Knowledge of multi‑agent system frameworks or agentic AI orchestration.
  • Background in aerospace manufacturing, production systems, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Understanding of Industry 4.0 concepts and implementation strategies.
  • Experience with computer vision for manufacturing quality control.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems and protocols.
  • Proven project management capabilities.
