HBC Engineering Company is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Civil / Site Development team in Miami. This internship is ideal for a civil engineering student who wants to apply classroom knowledge to real infrastructure projects while gaining hands‑on experience in planning, design, permitting, and construction support.
Job SummaryThe Civil Engineering Intern will work alongside project managers, engineers, and designers to support civil engineering assignments involving site development, drainage, utilities, roadway improvements, and permitting. Interns will assist with plan production, calculations, reports, exhibits, field observations, and project documentation while building practical technical and professional skills.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with civil engineering design tasks, including site layout, grading, drainage, utility, roadway, and permit‑related plans
- Support the preparation of engineering documents, reports, exhibits, calculations, quantity takeoffs, and construction plans
- Help prepare permit applications, agency submittals, meeting notes, and responses to review comments
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and related tools to support design and documentation tasks
- Review drawings and project materials for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Participate in project coordination with engineers, designers, surveyors, agencies, and other team members
- Assist with field visits, site observations, and construction‑phase support as needed
- Ask questions, seek feedback, and contribute to a collaborative project team environment
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering program
- Basic familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license preferred for site visits
