Job description:

The Instrumentation Specialist will be responsible for providing specialized technical support in industrial instrumentation within the electric power generation plant in the Puerto de Cobre Panama area. The role is focused on maintenance, fault diagnosis, standardization of practices, and updating technical documentation, ensuring the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of instrumentation systems in critical generation processes.

Work in a coordinated manner with operations, maintenance, and automation teams, contributing to continuous improvement and efficient asset management in a high technological complexity environment.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Execute specialized maintenance in power plant instrumentation systems.
  • Diagnose and solve faults in instruments, control valves, sensors, and automated systems.
  • Analyze technical events and support in identifying the root cause of recurrent faults.
  • Keep technical documentation, SOPs, and associated procedures updated.
  • Support the standardization of practices and continuous improvement in instrumentation.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Coordinate technical interventions in the field, ensuring compliance with HSE standards.
  • Participate in reliability analysis and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Validate technical requirements for spare parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Generate periodic technical reports on faults, improvements, and system performance.

Position Profile

Academic Training

  • Professional technician, technologist, or engineer in instrumentation, electronics, electricity, electromechanics, or related fields.
  • University engineering training (desirable)

Experience and Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial instrumentation.
  • Proven experience in power generation plants (turbines, boilers, thermal processes).
  • Strong technical knowledge in:
    • Control valves
    • Pneumatics and hydraulics
    • Industrial sensors
    • PLCs
    • Industrial signals
    • Experience in diagnosing faults and maintenance in complex systems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical documentation (manuals, diagrams, etc.).

Desirables

  • Knowledge in industrial communications (Profibus, Modbus, or others).
  • Experience in automation of generation processes.
  • Experience documenting technical procedures and operational instructions.
  • Experience in high complexity industrial environments or large-scale plants.

Competencies and Skills

  • Analytical thinking and resolution of technical problems in the field.
  • Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Organization and management of technical documentation.
  • Work under pressure in critical operational environments (plant shutdowns, contingencies).
  • Focus on continuous improvement and standardization.
  • High technical responsibility and collaborative work.

Other Requirements

  • Intermediate technical English (reading manuals); conversational level desirable.
  • Current driver’s license.
