This is highly responsible, technical work performing as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper for the City of Miami.
Responsibilities- Perform land surveys for the City of Miami and act as a consultant/adviser monitoring the work of private surveying and mapping companies under contract with the City.
- Review, process, and approve survey plans, tentative plats, final plats, sketches and legal descriptions, right‑of‑way deeds, and related documents.
- Sign plans and specifications as a licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper with considerable independence of action and authority.
- Supervise subordinate technical and administrative staff and coordinate field efforts, including office and field supervision of crews.
- Review and process record plats, check municipal atlas sheets, establish city monument lines and benchmarks, and prepare right‑of‑way deeds of dedication.
- Verify and prepare legal descriptions and sketches for legal descriptions.
- Review building plans for permits, index, file, and maintain public records such as plats, surveys, aerial photographs, and construction plans for City employees and the public.
- Consult and advise engineers, land surveyors, and the general public on surveying and mapping issues.
- Determine the adaptability of plans and designs to particular field conditions.
- Perform certified surveys as assigned and testify in court when required.
- Coordinate the selection process and procurement of private land surveying firms, and distribute survey work among selected firms.
- Plan, assign, coordinate and supervise the work of subordinate staff.
- Evaluate employee performance appraisals and administer collective bargaining agreements, Civil Service Rules, and departmental policies and procedures.
- State of Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper License in accordance with Chapter 472, State of Florida Statutes, required at time of application and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Six (6) months of experience in land surveying and mapping work as a licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper.
- Valid driver’s license, Class E or higher from any state, with a State of Florida Driver’s License required at appointment and maintained throughout employment.
