Certification Engineer (Aerospace)

This role focuses on leading avionics integration and Supplemental Type Certification (STC) programs for Part 25 and Part 23 aircraft. The engineer works independently and collaboratively to plan, execute, and certify airborne equipment installations in coordination with regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders. The position requires strong technical expertise in avionics, a deep understanding of FAA and foreign CAA certification processes, and the ability to manage complex programs from concept through certification and installation support.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading Part 25 and Part 23 STC programs for the installation of airborne equipment on aircraft, ensuring projects meet technical and regulatory requirements.
• Initiating and managing STC programs with the FAA or ODA, coordinating closely with operators and other stakeholders throughout the certification lifecycle.
• Preparing certification documents, including certification plans, compliance checklists, safety assessments, and conformity plans, in alignment with applicable regulations and standards.
• Supporting certification compliance activities such as conformity inspections and FAA-witnessed ground functional and electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing.
• Ensuring adherence to established engineering and certification processes while actively promoting continuous improvement in methods and documentation.
• Coordinating and supporting parts and installation conformity inspections to verify compliance with approved design data.
• Maintaining detailed project schedules, tracking milestones, and communicating progress, risks, and issues effectively to relevant stakeholders.
• Providing practical engineering solutions based on thorough research, analysis, and interpretation of technical data and regulatory requirements.
• Generating product design and certification documentation in accordance with DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, and other applicable airworthiness standards.
• Supporting activities related to real-time aircraft data systems that enhance operational efficiency, safety, and performance.
• Collaborating effectively in a team-oriented environment while taking initiative to propose ideas and adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision.
• Traveling as needed to support on-site aircraft installation activities, including coordination with installation teams and participation in test events.

Essential skills include:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in avionics integration and/or STC certification.
• Proven experience running Part 25 and Part 23 STC programs for avionics installations.
• Working knowledge of FAA and foreign CAA coordination and certification processes.
• Hands-on experience with FAA certification planning and program management, with at least 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated familiarity with avionics integration, STC acquisition, and regulatory environments for FAA and foreign CAA.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD for design and documentation tasks.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, propose ideas, and adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision.
• Effectiveness in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, contributing constructively to shared goals.
• Willingness and ability to travel to support on-site aircraft installation and certification activities.

Qualifications include:

• Experience with FAA certification planning, including development of certification plans and compliance strategies.
• Prior experience in program management, including scheduling, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication.
• Experience with compliance activities such as conformity inspections, testing, and documentation control.
• Exposure to working with an Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) for certification programs.
• Familiarity with testing and inspection processes related to avionics systems and airborne equipment installations.
• Knowledge of Supplemental Type Certification (STC) processes and best practices for avionics modifications.
• Experience generating documentation and supporting compliance to DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, and related airworthiness standards.
• Understanding of real-time aircraft data systems and how they support operational efficiency, safety, and performance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and technical data.
• Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities may shift based on program and regulatory demands.

Work environment is onsite with flexibility to work remotely up to 1–2 days per week when necessary.
