Avionics Technician — General Aviation & Glass Cockpit Specialist

Location: Fernandina Beach, FL (Convenient 50-minute commute from Jacksonville, FL)

Role Overview

As an Avionics Technician, you will handle complete avionics installations, system integration, complex troubleshooting, and routine inspections across a varied general aviation lineup (single-engine aircraft, light twins, and corporate jets). You will play a pivotal role in ensuring every panel upgrade and wiring harness complies 100% with Federal Aviation Regulations and manufacturer specs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Installations & System Diagnostics: Execute full-lifecycle avionics installations and troubleshoot complex system anomalies on general aviation platforms.

  • Certifications & Checks: Perform 24-month IFR/VFR pitot-static and transponder inspections within scheduled shop timelines.

  • Software & Database Management: Interface with aircraft computers to perform critical software patches, system calibrations, and database updates.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Reference and execute OEM installation manuals and Repair Station SOPs to guarantee total FAA compliance.

  • Component Evaluation: Assess damaged or malfunctioning equipment to determine repair feasibility or replacement strategies using Service Bulletins and maintenance manuals.

  • Work Tracking: Maintain thorough, audit-ready daily work logs and submit concise End-of-Day (EOD) status reports to shop management.

Minimum Criteria
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as an Avionics Technician within general aviation.

  • Technical Fluency: Verifiable proficiency working with systems from major OEMs (Garmin, L3, Avidyne, Aspen, etc.).

  • Regulatory Proficiency: Solid understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), wiring schematics, and OEM technical manuals.

  • Tooling: Must own and maintain a personal set of basic aviation hand tools and a mobile toolbox.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods; and work comfortably in active hangar environments where noise levels may exceed 85 dB (ear protection provided).

  • Vetting: Professional references are required and will be verified prior to onboarding.

Preferred Attributes
  • Current FAA Airframe or A&P license (a significant asset, though not strictly required).

  • Practical experience working on Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, and Cirrus platforms (both piston and turbine models).

  • Prior general aircraft maintenance or sheet metal experience.
