Innovation Engineer

The Role

We went to market with our 3D-Printed Seawalls, which have since been tested, permitted, and installed throughout Florida. We’re now growing our product portfolio to also include artificial reefs and living shorelines products like wave dissipation and beach erosion devices. We need an engineer to lead the product innovation efforts to make sure that the new products are structurally sound, will successfully get permitted and are something that our 3D-Printing technology can deliver.

The innovation engineer will design new products, as well as pressure-test the ones we already built, work out how they attach and install, source the raw materials, and bridge the sales and production team.

• New product development, from designs through physical testing, permitting, installation guides and field deployment. We started with seawalls, and are now building a library of other living shoreline products (3D-printed wave dissipation, beach erosion, tide pools etc.)
• Review of engineering design plans alongside Leandro, our lead engineer
• The bridge between sales and production, so what we sell is what we can actually print
• Documentation of existing products and a real feedback loop from the field back into R&D
• Technical representation with clients, agencies, partners, and at industry conferences

• Civil, mechanical, structural or coastal engineering.
• Understanding of wave attenuation, sediment transport, and how a structure behaves under hydrodynamic loading.
• PE license is a plus, not a requirement.
• Marine background are a plus (i.e. minor in marine biology or a master's thesis on artificial reef hydrodynamics, shoreline stabilization, or hybrid coastal defense)
• Physical product development. They have taken a real structure from concept to the water and participated in the permitting, engineering and installation process.
• Experience with "nature-based solutions" like living shoreline, oyster reef, or hybrid breakwater projects they designed, permitted, and installed.
• History interfacing with government agencies like building departments (City level), environmental agencies (like DERM in Miami-Dade County), FDEP (State) or USACE/FEMA (Federal).
