Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Avionics Certification Engineer to lead FAA certification activities and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs supporting avionics integration and airborne equipment installations on fixed-wing aircraft.
This role is ideal for an engineer with experience managing FAA Part 23 and Part 25 certification programs, coordinating with the FAA and ODA organizations, and leading certification compliance activities from project initiation through approval. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, operators, regulators, installers, and program stakeholders to ensure successful certification of avionics and aircraft modification programs.
You'll have the opportunity to support advanced avionics systems, aircraft modernization programs, and real-time aircraft data systems that improve aircraft performance, operational efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities
+ Lead FAA Part 23 and Part 25 Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs for aircraft avionics and airborne equipment installations.
+ Manage certification projects from concept through FAA approval and STC issuance.
+ Coordinate directly with FAA personnel, ODA representatives, aircraft operators, and program stakeholders.
+ Develop and manage certification plans, compliance plans, certification matrices, and project schedules.
+ Prepare certification documentation, including:
+ Certification Plans
+ Compliance Checklists
+ Safety Assessments
+ Conformity Plans
+ Compliance Reports
+ Support conformity inspections, installation inspections, and certification compliance verification activities.
+ Coordinate FAA-witnessed ground testing, functional testing, EMI/EMC testing, and certification demonstrations.
+ Support aircraft modification and avionics integration activities during design, installation, and certification phases.
+ Generate engineering and certification documentation supporting compliance with:
+ RTCA DO-178
+ RTCA DO-254
+ RTCA DO-160
+ FAA regulations
+ Applicable airworthiness standards
+ Coordinate certification efforts with domestic and foreign Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA).
+ Support aircraft installation activities and provide on-site technical assistance as required.
+ Maintain certification schedules and provide regular status updates to program leadership.
+ Identify certification risks and develop mitigation plans to maintain program execution.
+ Support continuous improvement initiatives related to certification processes, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline
+ 4+ years of experience supporting aircraft certification, avionics integration, or STC programs
+ Experience managing FAA certification programs and compliance activities

+ Supplemental Type Certificates (STC)

+ Avionics Integration
+ Aircraft Modifications
+ Certification Planning
+ Compliance Verification
+ Working knowledge of FAA certification processes and regulatory requirements
+ Familiarity coordinating with FAA representatives and ODA organizations
+ Ability to prepare certification and compliance documentation
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to support aircraft installations and travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience serving as a lead Certification Engineer or Airworthiness Engineer
+ ODA experience
+ Experience working directly with FAA Aircraft Certification Offices (ACO)
+ Experience coordinating with foreign Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA)
+ Knowledge of:
+ RTCA DO-178
+ RTCA DO-254
+ RTCA DO-160
+ System Safety Assessments (SSA)
+ Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA)
+ Experience supporting avionics modernization programs
+ Experience supporting connectivity, communications, flight deck, surveillance, navigation, or aircraft data systems
+
Experience with certification testing, conformity inspections, and aircraft modification programs
+ Aerospace, aviation, or aircraft systems engineering experience
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $62.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
