Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering and five years of engineering experience are required. A State of Florida Professional Engineer license or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology awarded or having been enrolled prior to July 1, 1979 and proof of having passed the fundamentals test for the State of Florida Professional Engineer license may substitute for the required education.
Recruitment NotesThis position resides within the Highway Engineering Division of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) and is responsible for supervising major engineering functions associated with the planning, design, procurement, and construction of roadway and drainage infrastructure projects. Employees in this position supervise and coordinate roadway and drainage design activities, preparation and review of construction plans, development of cost estimates, consultant services negotiations and awards, and preparation and review of contract documents for the construction, renovation, and improvement of transportation facilities and infrastructure.
The position participates in the bidding and procurement process for construction projects, reviews engineering and contract documents, and resolves complex design and engineering issues that may arise during project development. Responsibilities continue through the construction phase, including review and approval of shop drawings, coordination with project stakeholders, and resolution of design conflicts and unforeseen engineering issues encountered during construction. The position necessitates substantial technical knowledge, independent engineering judgment, project oversight, and supervisory responsibility.
Decisions made in this role directly affect the design, cost, schedule, constructability, and successful completion of major roadway and drainage improvements within Miami-Dade County.
