This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

This role is a part of the zero-g propellant management team.

The team is rethinking how space systems are designed, with a high-performance architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. Join our team and pave the road to a permanent lunar presence!

We are looking for a Cryogenic Responsible Engineer with experience developing and manufacturing cryogenic propellant management devices. You will provide technical oversight, requirement development, manufacturing support and hardware ownership on our most challenging cryogenic technical problems. As part of your role you will own hardware from cradle to grave and be responsible for delivering your hardware to the vehicle. Work will include the complete life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation.

You will work with both internal and external suppliers to design, build, test and analyze components that will take us to the moon! Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work at significant technical depth on complex subsystems with minimal oversight as part of the Zero-g Propellant Management Product Team (IPT).
  • Manage internal and external procurements and internal hardware dependencies required to meet subsystem deliveries.
  • Tackle the diverse range of fluids propulsion design engineer tasks like leading trade studies, component design/integration, 1st order analysis, test support and supplier interface as the opportunities arise
  • Own hardware drawing release, manufacturing plan development, manufacturing support and integration onto the vehicle
  • Lead internal and external cryogenic technological development meetings
  • Cradle-to-grave ownership of cryogenic system
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject area
  • 5+ years of experience in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems/components
  • Experience developing, integrating and certifying aerospace systems for flight
  • Experience with fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels and instrumentation
  • Experience with Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject area
  • Cryogenic fluids experience
  • Human rated space vehicle experience
  • Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred).
  • Experience with upper stages and spacecraft
  • Experience with the entire life cycle of a propulsion and fluid system
