POSITION DETAILS:
We are seeking an experienced Risk Associate, who will oversee trading risk for options and equities clearing, collaborating with tech teams to maintain compliant order management systems (OMS). The ideal candidate should have some familiarity with SEC rules (such as 15c-3-5), risk concepts related to equities and options, and an interest in learning about options strategies, portfolio margin calculations, trade reporting, and securities lending.
The Risk Associate will support our risk management team and collaborate with operations and technology staff. This role will assist in the daily intra-day monitoring and implementation of our clearing firm’s client risk program and contribute to identifying and minimizing risks for the company. The position offers exposure to various aspects of risk management and opportunities to work with different departments.
Responsibilities
- Partner with technology team to ensure OMS fully complies with pre-trade risk controls, including real-time validation of position limits, exposure thresholds, and trade surveillance controls.
- Implement and monitor pre-trade risk controls, including position limits, order exposure thresholds, and rejection logic for both options (0
DTE strategies) and equities to prevent excessive risk accumulation. - Manage volatility risk modeling, adjusting exposure limits dynamically and scenario analysis for options portfolios.
- Administer margin management protocols:
Calculate initial, variation, and stress margins using SPAN/TIMES models; issue intraday calls - Conduct real-time risk monitoring via dashboards tracking VAR levels, Greeks (delta, gamma, vega), liquidity, and net capital usage; escalate breaches with automated alerts.
- Handle options-specific risks:
Mitigate 0-day options (0
DTE) gamma scalping exposures, assignment risk through early exercise monitoring, and expiration management - Assist best execution analysis:
Gather and preprocess data on order fills (price improvement, speed, size), routing decisions, and venue performance metrics to support quarterly SEC Rule 605 - Generate quarterly Rule 606 reports:
Aggregate order routing data across equities and options, detailing execution quality, venue statistics, and payment for order flow (PFOF) disclosures per SEC requirements. - Produce daily risk reports:
Summarize position exposures, margin adequacy, volatility breaches, and intraday escalations for senior management review.
- 3–5 years of experience in risk management at a financial services, brokerage, or clearing firm environment preferred.
- Basic understanding of broker/dealer operations and risk management concepts.
- Interest in options strategies, portfolio margin, and trade reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with spreadsheets (Excel or similar); database knowledge a plus.
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
- Ability to multitask and work with multiple teams.
- Clean U4 and background required.
- FINRA Series 7 required or must be obtained within the first year;
Series 24 or 57 a plus but not required.
