What You’ll Be Doing

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the following activities. Primary responsibilities for this position will be that of Underwriting and Portfolio Management and execution of 1A risk management activities in a manner consistent with CIBC’s risk culture.

You will have the flexibility to manage your work activities within an in-office arrangement where you’ll spend 4 days per week on-site, and one day will be remote.

How You’ll Succeed
  • Portfolio Management & Credit Oversight
    • Maintain and deepen partnerships across business functions to support client needs and business objectives, while maintaining high credit standards.
    • Address upcoming maturities and annual reviews on time; help remediate payment past dues
    • Ensure all customer financial reporting / covenants are collected on time
    • Support closing team to ensure collection of outstanding loan document exceptions
    • Follow up on past due real estate taxes / insurance certificates to clear exceptions
    • Prepare CAMP reports and quarterly trend cards / reviews
    • Prepare FAS 114 memo / analysis
    • Complete quarterly SOX controls and ensure accurate risk ratings at all times for covered portfolio
    • Respond to approval requests for overdrafts, manual wires, NSF wires, ACH suspensions, etc.
    • Review borrowing base availability and approve loan advances
    • Perform loan structuring in support of underwriting and credit approval
    • Coordinate onboarding, deposit account opening and TM setup activities
    • Guide deals through the credit approval process.
    • Advise on credit actions related to the existing portfolio, including structuring, waivers, and modifications.
  • Deal Execution & Guidance
    • Provide expert guidance on deal structuring through to approval and closing.
    • Ensure all transactions align with CIBC’s risk appetite and credit policies.
    • Leverage external tools like Capital

      IQ, Fact Set, Moody’s Risk Analyst and Excel along with CIBC’s proprietary tools, to model financial statements, generate credit ratings, and analyze the creditworthiness of a borrower.
  • Process Improvement and Best Practices
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality in credit analysis and package preparation processes.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of credit policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Client and Internal Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with analysts, relationship managers, clients, and internal partners to gather relevant information and ensure timely delivery of credit submissions.
Who You Are
  • Advanced Credit Underwriting Expertise
    • 7+ years experience proven ability to underwrite complex commercial credit transactions, including large public companies and sponsor‑backed deals.
    • Deep understanding of financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and risk assessment for a variety of industries and deal structures.
  • Experience with Diverse Transaction Types
    • Demonstrated experience structuring and analyzing credit for large corporates, mid‑market companies, and transactions involving private equity sponsors or leveraged buyouts.
    • Familiarity with syndicated loans, acquisition financing, and other sophisticated lending solutions.
  • Analytical and Problem‑Solving Skills
    • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to identify key credit risks and opportunities.
    • Ability to synthesize complex information and present clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Communication and Presentation Skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing credit packages, presenting recommendations, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to articulate complex credit issues and defend recommendations to credit committees or senior management.
