Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a current State of Florida Professional Engineer license, a State of Florida Registered Architect license, or a General Contractor's license issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board or Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board. Five years of field experience under the State of Florida Professional Engineer license, State of Florida Registered Architect license, or General Contractor's license to include two years in a High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ).

Completion of an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by the Board of Rules and Appeals may substitute for the required HVHZ experience.

Recruitment Notes

The Building Plans Processor is an advanced professional architectural role responsible for the examination of complex construction plans for building projects. Incumbents in this position are responsible for examining commercial and residential construction permit plans to determine building integrity and compliance with requirements of the Florida Building Code and other applicable codes and regulations. Additional duties include reviewing proposed residential and commercial construction plans for permit approval and compliance, and conferring with architects, engineers, contractors, and/or owners regarding disapproved items to determine corrective actions needed to obtain approval.

All applicants must be eligible for certification by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals as specified in Chapter 8 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. Certificate and/or license must be in good standing with Miami-Dade County's Contractor Licensing and Enforcement Section, and/or the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and/or Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board with no pending complaints.

Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to extensive background screening. Applicants holding an active certificate will be required to inactivate their certificate at their own expense upon employment.
