ROLE
We are seeking a Media Relations Specialist to support the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida (USAO-SDFL) in Miami, FL. In this role, you will support the office’s public affairs function by helping plan, coordinate, and deliver communications and outreach activities that advance the office’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES I. Drafting & Content Development:- Develop communications plans and messaging tools for Government review and approval
- Draft press releases, background materials, quotes and digital content for Government review and approval
- Prepare briefing materials for USAO leadership engagements
- Produce congressional and interagency materials without negotiating, directing, or committing the Government
- Track media inquiries, compile background information, draft responses, and coordinate interview logistics
- Maintain fluent Spanish capability for written and verbal communications support
- Refrain from providing official statements or representing the Government to the media
- Monitor local media reports for USAO and law enforcement coverage
- Coordinate with the DOJ Office of Public Affairs to draft PSAs, and align national and local messaging
- Review the USAO media relations program and recommend improvements to strengthen public understanding
- Draft content for DOJ-approved platforms
- Assist in preparing multimedia products for Government dissemination
- Support USAO responses to press inquiries, and communicate office events to news media
- Assist in planning public events, press conferences, meetings, and briefings
- Develop event materials and background packages for Government review and use
- Provide advisory and preparatory support only
- Advisory and Strategic Communications Support
- Provide strategic communications recommendations, research, and comparative analysis to Government personnel
- Support crisis communications in a drafting and advisory capacity
- Analyze social media use, and recommend strategies to publicize office activities and accomplishments
- Train agency personnel on media engagement and response practices
- Support USAO outreach strategy development under the U.S. Attorney, designee, or Outreach Team
- Assess the effectiveness of current outreach initiatives
- Solicit feedback from current partners to evaluate outreach efforts
- Identify potential key partners, especially in underserved communities
- Attend meetings with USAO personnel and key partners to survey perceptions of outreach efforts
- Measure community attitudes on law enforcement, crime prevention, and the criminal justice system
- Recommend outreach needs and goals for diverse and underserved communities
- Present recommendations to develop, implement, and participate in outreach initiatives
- Familiarity with crisis communications
- Familiarity with national and international media audiences.
- Ability to prepare communications for politically sensitive matters
- Bilingual English/Spanish required (verbal and written proficiency)
- Experience in federal agency communications
- Experience drafting media materials for public dissemination
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Undergraduate degree preferred

- U.S. citizenship is required as it supports the U.S. federal government
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 4 High Risk Public Trust (SSBI) background investigation
