Planning Technician

Job Overview

This is an entry level technical and paraprofessional position in the Planning Department that supports planning studies, statistical analysis, map production, and legislative work for the City of Miami.

• Conduct research and analyze statistical information for planning studies.
• Prepare drafts of recommendations, reports, and legislative documents for review by Planners.
• Update, organize, retrieve, create, and maintain maps, charts, tables, and other documents.
• Create and maintain databases and spreadsheets to track program compliance.
• Track amendments, legislation, covenants, permits, and conditions of approval to ensure compliance.
• Assist in processing permits and applications, including fee receipt, tracking, and routing.
• Provide technical assistance and information to staff and the public regarding planning programs, areas, or ordinances.
• Process address change requests.
• Perform related duties as required and work with all divisions within the Department.

• Minimum of 60 college credits or an associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent education and one (1) year of private or public sector planning experience.
• Alternatively, a combination of education exceeding a high school diploma and one (1) year of required experience may satisfy the requirement.

A valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class

E) is required upon application. A State of Florida driver’s license (Class E or higher) must be presented and maintained throughout employment.

Employees may be required to work shifts that include nights, holidays, and weekends.
