Job Description

$7,500 Sign On Bonus

The Department of Surgery
- Life Alliance Organ Procurement Agency has an exciting opportunity for a full time Donor Referral Responder position. The incumbent responds to all referred potential cadaver donors for organ procurement. Moreover, the Donor Referral Responder directs logistical support of potential organ donors and provides information to healthcare professionals in donor hospitals, in addition to maintaining the integrity of the donation process when actively engaged in a potential organ donor referral.

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Responds to potential donor referrals in all donor service area hospitals, in accordance with LAORA policies and procedures, within the confines of Miami Dade, Monroe Broward, Collier, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties, and the Common Wealth of the Bahamas.
  • Communicates with appropriate senior staff on all donor and referral activity to evaluate donation suitability based on information collected from patient’s hospital chart and current health status.
  • Performs independent assessment of potential cadaver donors to ensure donor meets medical criteria for donation.
  • Performs assigned and routine rounds in hospitals to foster hospital collaboration.
  • Ensures all legal allergic and regulatory requirements, and medical standards of practice are met in the process of pursuing organs and tissues.
  • Maintains daily log of activities on electronic spreadsheet for cost allocation and quality assurance purposes.
  • Documents clinical information, as required by regulatory agencies, in all aspects of interactions with hospital staff and during the donation process.
  • Provides organ procurement in-service in donor hospitals to medical professionals.
  • Participates in physician, hospital staff, and medical community education, as it relates to organ donor awareness and clinical support.
  • Assists with data collection and operational initiatives and oversees processes used for publication and clinical research.
  • Transports organs, blood, specimens, and tissue samples from one place to another.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • One year of critical care/intensive care work experience or one year of OPO experience.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, certification(s), or work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Credential as RN, CRT, Foreign MD, EMT or Paramedic preferred.
