Summary

Radiology Supervisors are responsible for supervision of a diagnostic section such as angiocardiography, neuroradiology or an emergency or clinic area in a large and diversified radiology department. Emphasis of the work is on scheduling, coordinating and technically supervising the work of a group of technologists and instructing both radiology students and technologists being trained in more difficult work.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the work of Radiologic Technologists 1 and 2. Coordinates scheduling of patient flow and completes daily log of activities. Coordinates scheduling of technologists.
  • Trains new technologists according to department protocol.
  • Assists staff as needed with in-service training.
  • Participates in instruction of Radiology Residents.
  • Coordinates daily assignments with medical staff. Assists in supervising Dark-room, Medical Surgical Attendant, and/or Clerical Staff assigned to his/her area.
  • Assists the technologists with more difficult processes or patients, while adhering to the safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patients.
  • Evaluates technical quality of results and assists in resolving technical or administrative problems.
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory adequate for unit.
  • Detects equipment problems and initiates repairs according to department protocol.
  • Approves leave of subordinate staff. Counsels technologists on work related matters.
  • Recommends promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions.
  • Acts as clinical instructor for the program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Devotes a minimum of 25% of time providing students with clinical instruction/supervision and evaluation of the level of student clinical competency. Evaluates subordinate technologists' work performance.
  • Participates in, or acts as, a committee member of the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Reviews, signs and processes timecards for department payroll processing.
  • Performs diagnostic studies in the absence of a staff technologist or as the workload demands and maintains safety standards particular to age-specific needs of the patient.
  • Uses and supervises the use of the HIS Computer system.
  • Responsible for daily work list.
  • Implements new diagnostic studies into the system for scheduling and billing. Initiates all bids and forwards written recommendations for purchases.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
  • Shall be certified in CPR.
  • Possesses and maintains understanding of the principles of growth and development as they pertain to patients in all age groups.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient s status, and interprets the information needed to identify the patient s requirement relative to age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience

Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Supervisory experience is required.

Preferred Experience

At least 3 to 5 years  experience as a radiology tech.

Education

Graduation from an accredited School of Radiology Technology required.

Credentials
  • Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019.
  • Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification.
  • Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers with at least 6 months validity required.
