First Assistant​/Physician Assistant, CVOR Flex Shift

Position Summary

The CV Surgical Assistant will assist the CV Surgeons in all surgical procedures. At times as first surgical assistant, at other times as second surgical assistant, depending on the procedure and the needs of the cardio-vascular service. As a member of the CV team, the CV surgical assistant will help with the transport, transfer, positioning, and preparation of the patient in the OR.

Ongoing communication will occur with surgeons and other CV team members. The CV surgical assistant will take emergency call with the CV surgical team and be available after hours in case of emergency surgery. The CV surgical assistant will assist with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities when necessary. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the surgical team are met.

• Previous experience in an Open Heart Surgery program preferred.
• Documentation of satisfactory accomplishment in endoscopic vein harvest. Minimum 100 documented cases preferred.
• Documentation of satisfactory accomplishment in radial artery harvest. Minimum 50 documented cases preferred.
• References from 3 physicians substantiating acceptable performance in first assisting in all open heart procedures preferred.
• Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others.
• Credentialed through the Medical Staff Office
• Basic computer skills.

• Current License as a Physician Assistant, House Physician, DO or MD in the State of Florida preferred.
• Current Surgical Assistant Certification.
• Current BLS certification.

• Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization.

Must clear background and drug test required.
