- Performs all aspects of microbiological testing of enteric, gonococcal, and miscellaneous bacteria.
- Coordinates and oversees testing in microbiology, performs monthly reports, and trains staff in microbiology sections.
- Oversees maintenance of up‑to‑date inventory of supplies, reagents, and media.
- Performs testing for chlamydia/gonorrhea on automated equipment.
- Performs quality control and quality assurance activity, proficiency testing.
- Assists in Laboratory Response Network (LRN) testing of agents of bioterrorism as member of lab surge team, as required.
- Accession specimens into Lab Ware computer system, records and approves results.
- Prepares and discards daily medical waste following Bureau of Laboratories Biowaste protocol.
- Participates in on‑call duty assignments, provides telephone coverage, assesses call urgency, and handles urgent diseases or community‑wide emergencies.
- Attends staff meetings and required training, follows laboratory and department safety policies.
- Perform other lab related duties as required.
- Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.
- Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
- Skill in the use of lab equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Minimum:
Medical Technologist or Public Health Licensure. - Preferred:
Bachelor of Science.
