Position
Description:
The Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses in an outpatient setting. In this dynamic and high‑paced environment, the Mental Health RN must balance clinical expertise with strong communication skills to provide patient-centered care while ensuring safety for patients, staff, and visitors.

Description:
The William ‘Bill’ Kling Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation, and treatment services for a wide spectrum of mental and behavioral health conditions. Their dedicated team supports Veterans facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, substance use and addictive behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat-related stress. The clinic also offers specialized care for emotional and cognitive concerns, including anger management, relationship difficulties, memory issues, intrusive thoughts, and self-harming or aggressive behaviors.
Through compassionate, evidence-based, and Veteran-centered care, the clinic promotes recovery, resilience, and improved quality of life for those who have served.
- Patient assessments
- Interdisciplinary team coordination
- Electronic medical record documentation
- Applying de-escalation techniques and Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) strategies to help people manage their emotions and behavior
- Providing evidence-based, individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety
- Administration of Long-Acting Injections
- Current, unrestricted RN license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) accepted.
- BLS certification.
- Three (3) years mental health experience.
- Ability to function in a high-paced, stressful environment.
