The Health Educator III is responsible for leading the health promotion efforts for the Healthy Living Program in cultivating a campus environment in which students feel educated and empowered to make healthy and responsible choices that contribute to their overall personal and academic success. Additionally, they serve as the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Coordinator, developing and implementing strategies that target awareness, prevention, and treatment of the misuse of alcohol and other substances based on best practices and assessment of students struggling with alcohol and drug use.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates various outreach programs to address the needs of the student population, through presentations, events, and educational programs on a variety of health/wellness topics.
- Serves as the university's AOD Coordinator, developing and implementing strategies targeting awareness, prevention, and treatment of the misuse of alcohol and other substances. Co-Chairs the university's AOD Task Force.
- Collaborates with Housing and Residential Life (HRL), Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), Student Conduct & Academic Integrity (SCAI), Athletics, and other key departments and leaders to provide the student body with instructional training, psycho educational workshops, alternative social programming, and consultation related to alcohol and other drug issues.
- Works collaboratively with university programs, community partners, and vendors to coordinate, implement, and evaluate risk reduction programs/activities (e.g., CBRI, FLDOH, Alcohol
101, etc.) - Monitors, collects, and reports student utilization and health-related data, and provides analytical recommendations for program development.
- Collaborates with Student Health & Wellness leadership, responsible for preparation and dissemination of Clery Annual Security Report, Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act report, CORE Alcohol and Other Drugs National Survey, and FL-BOG Student Wellness Dashboard.
- Serves as staff advisor to student clubs, such as Panthers4
Recovery. Assists the students with necessary approvals for meetings, marketing, and education. - Supervises and trains student assistants, interns, and volunteer programs. Facilitates regular meetings to ensure goals/objectives and action plans are met. Assists in supervision of HLP staff as assigned.
- Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques and other evidence-based intervention methods to assist students in health-related behavior change, in both one-on-one and group settings, on a variety of health topics, including stress/time management, sleep hygiene, sexual health, alcohol and other drug misuse and tobacco cessation. Develops and implements other health consultations as appropriate, to address changing wellness needs of the student body.
- Works closely with other health educators and prevention specialists (e.g., hazing, sexual misconduct) on cross-collaborative initiatives.
- Serves as a member of Fraternity & Sorority Life's advisory team, specifically related to new member education as well as member risk education/prevention and assessments.
- Collaborates with SHW Marketing team to develop social media and marketing content relevant to the health/wellness needs of the student population.
