Clinical Laboratory Assistant – Early Phase Clinical Research

About the RoleThe Clinical Laboratory Assistant supports specimen collection and processing activities for early phase clinical trials, primarily involving healthy volunteers.
Responsibilities include laboratory sample handling, documentation, data entry, and maintaining participant safety and comfort throughout clinical studies.
Working hours are study-dependent and may include weekends, early mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Process and handle clinical and pharmacokinetic (PK/PD) specimens.
- Monitor timed specimen collections, including urine and other biological samples.
- Maintain laboratory collection areas and ensure adequate inventory of supplies.
- Label and prepare collection tubes and requisitions for external laboratory testing.
- Coordinate specimen transport and sample shipment activities.
- Document observations and communicate abnormal findings or adverse events to study staff.
- Support participant safety and comfort throughout study procedures.
- Perform clerical tasks and data entry associated with study activities.
- Adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and study protocols.
- Phlebotomy certification and/or a minimum of six months' phlebotomy experience within a healthcare setting.
- Previous clinical research experience preferred but not required.
- BLS and/or ACLS certification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with GCP, ICH guidelines, and regulatory requirements is desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
