SummaryThe Pharmacy Manager, Infusion Services provides leadership for all clinical, operational, and financial affairs of the Jackson Health System (JHS) Infusion Services Department intended to provide for exceptional quality of care and the fulfillment of the organizational mission. The incumbent develops and executes strategic initiatives to achieve goals related to the successful operation of JHS Infusion Services, which are in support of the overall strategic plan of the JHS.
The Pharmacy Manager, Infusion Services provides communication and interface throughout the JHS to ensure integration and compliance with all relevant federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Major responsibilities include professional direction of staff engaged in a variety of processes and advising the medical staff on pharmaceutical problems. Must exercise considerable knowledge of chemical, biological and pharmacological sciences in resolving compounding, dispensing and manufacturing problems and in advising physicians on drug characteristics, properties, therapy and usage.
Responsible for maintaining the department compliant with regulatory and accreditation standards. The incumbent may assist and act in a confidential capacity to help manage, formulate, determine and effectuate management process and polices. The incumbent may attend management meetings and may be involved directly or indirectly in the decision-making process around confidential management decisions. Position requires exercise of independent judgment.
- Sets defined goals/objectives and timetables for implementation of pharmaceutical care specific to the particular needs of Infusion Services Department patients.
- Establishes and measures standards of performance and quality assurance monitors for the delivery and use of medications.
- Develops or assures development of hospital-wide policies and maintains necessary records and controls consistent with local, state, and national guidelines for pharmaceutical services such as those defined by: the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), State of Florida Board of Pharmacy (BOP), Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintains continuous communications with patient care centers and other ancillary departments, developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with the administrative staff, medical staff, nursing staff, case management, and others.
- Serves as a resource person for staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacists, case management, patient care coordinators, and others for concerns in clinical activities and education.
- Makes regular rounds in all areas served by Infusion Services to inspect and evaluate the work of departmental personnel.
- Responds promptly to suggestions, complaints, and compliments from customers and insures that all Infusion Services staff members do the same.
- Develops, prepares, and presents departmental revenue, expense, and statistical budgets.
- Allocates adequate resources commensurate with authority for assessing and improving services provided.
- Assures the preparation of statistical, performance, and analytical reports as required. Recruits, orients, motivates, and maintains an effective staff to carry out assigned responsibilities.
- Provides leadership support in the communication and integration of the Jackson Health System (JHS) Mission Statement.
- Develops and/or supervises the development of policies and procedures governing the operation of Infusion Services.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are reviewed on a regular basis and revised as necessary and the department is up-to-date with regulatory and accreditation standards.
